This mine exploration and development company seeks dynamic Project Managers for positions in Africa, Asia and India.

Reports to:

Chief Operating Officer or his/her designate.

Subordinates:

Lead Engineer, Project Service Manager, Planner, Cost Engineer, Personal Assistant, Sub Consultants Liaises With: Clients and All Internal Clients and Internal Services Departments Contractors and Engineering and technology.

Position Details/Job Description:

Functional Responsibilities:

Client:

  • Deliver the agreed Scope of work within the expected time, quality and cost expectations. Manage all project risk and ensures compliance to all statutory, corporate and client standards
  • and procedures.
  • Responsible for developing and Managing the project strategies.
  • Responsible for maintaining the client relationship.
  • Responsible for team performance.
  • Responsible for project safety performance.

Company:

  • Manage the contract between the client and the company
  • Manage and maintains the project team which includes resourcing retention and performance management.
  • Responsible for commercial performance refer special functions.

Areas of Focus:

  • Safety – to ensure the maximum amount of injury free man hour in compliance with the law and project contract.
  • Project Integration all aspects of project to achieve desired outcome.
  • Scope Management to ensure only approved work is being performed.
  • Time Management and control of activities ensuring compliance to the project schedule.
  • HR Management which includes the management, staffing of the project team, the motivation of the team, training/development, discipline and conflict resolution.
  • Cost Management and control ensuring adherence to the baseline budget. (Definitive Cost Estimate).
  • Communication and distribution of the required information to the stake holders. This information needs to be communicated timeously to ensure stake holders are informed of progress and issues that can affect the project, both positive and negative.
  • Risk Management to ensure project risks are identified and quantified timeously for an appropriate response to be developed. Appropriate control measures to be put in place.
  • Procurement Management to ensure that all goods and services to be acquired is done in line with the contract.
  • Implementation & Compliance with Client Quality Management System and Client Management Systems and specific project Controls.
  • Client Commercial Performance as referred to in special functions.

Corporate Responsibilities:

  • Client Commercial Performance:
    • Acting as focal point for the in-house control and client reporting.
    • Controlling time, cost and performance to adhere to contractual requirements.
    • Ensuring all work required is documented and distributed to all key personnel.
    • Ensuring all work performed is authorised and funded by contractual documents
    • Motivation and discipline of the project team members.
    • To ensure that the Client is invoiced correctly and timeously for services provided.
    • To ensure that payments are made timeously by the Client.
    • To present a monthly progress/status report for Client Management regardless of Client specific requirements.
  • Motivating the Project Team Members
  • Pro-actively support Client’s Behavioural Based Safety Policies and undertake the leadership role regarding all Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) matters within the project and actively collaborate with Clients, Contractors and Colleagues to propagate EHS best practices and apply zero tolerance
  • Co-ordinating, controlling and directing the activities of all staff and project team members to ensure that the project meets and exceeds the Client’s expectation
  • Building client partnerships by:
    • Working jointly with the client in defining project scope
    • Ensuring alignment of project with overall business goals
    • Responding promptly to client needs, changes and demands
    • Implementing procedures for controlling and handling change
    • Developing client understanding of the system and training client in systems use
    • Establishing lines of responsibility and accountability to the client
  • Managing and leading in accordance with visions and values of Client. In this respect Client’s servant leadership model takes pride of place.
  • Keeping current with business and technology developments in competitors.
  • Aligning project with Client’s corporate and business priorities and direction.
  • Managing and leading the activities of the Project Team Members in accordance with the Companies’ Code of Ethics.
  • Promote Client brand.
  • Persons employed by Client are responsible for ensuring that they act according to agreed procedures and work instructions and make themselves familiar with all the procedures that relate to their sphere of activities.
  • Compile and distribute lessons learned from the project on a regular basis.
  • Appoint all subordinates legal Appointments if appropriate or required as per your mandate if appointed by Mine/Client.
  • Project Manager to ensure all project team members sign relevant sign Letter of Appointment.

Qualifications, Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Level 1 PMP BSC Engineering or Engineering Qualification equivalent (Pr Eng preferable). MBA GCC.
  • Level 2 PMP BSC Engineering Qualifications GCC (advantage).
  • Level 3 HNC / HND Engineering Studying PMP.
  • Professional Body Registration: PMI, ECSA Legal Appointment:
  • Not Applicable Preferred Experience:
  • Level 1 10 Years Senior Management Experience.
  • Level 2 5/10 years Senior Management Experience.
  • Level 3 3/5 years Senior Management Experience.
  • Knowledge of Project Management, Planning, People HR Management, 10 years mining or plant or systems.
